Are you ready for Windows Vista?
If you haven't heard about Windows Vista yet, you're going to start hearing about it everywhere as the release date on January 30, 2007 draws near. This new release is a complete overhaul and will be fairly different than Windows XP. While Vista will offer many exciting new features and benefits, don't rush out to get it just yet.

Here are a few things to consider before upgrading:

    • Make sure your hardware will be compatible. (For example: the video card in your PC may not have drivers available for Vista)
    • Make sure your other software will be compatible. Make sure that anything else you use is compatible or will have a patch for Vista.
    • Since this is a major release and is just coming out, Microsoft might not have all of the bugs worked out just yet, as has been the case in previous releases. Sometimes, it's best to wait a little while before purchasing.
    • Make sure you get the appropriate version. There will be SIX different versions of this new operating system. You don't want to get it and then realize it won't do what you thought it would. Click here to read about the four main versions. Also, be aware that if you order a new PC after 1/30/07, it will likely come standard with Vista without an option for Windows XP.

    Happy New Year
For 2007, make back-ups and disaster recovery plans a priority. Here's a quick back up tip - make sure to organize and backup all of your software programs. Many companies have their software strewn all over the place in the original boxes. Keep the boxes, but take the software out and keep it in a special binder so that it is more convenient to access. Then, make copies of all of the CDs and keep them at an offsite location for backup purposes.
