AHI Hires New Customer Support Specialist
In an effort to streamline requests for service, and to better serve all of our clients, Automated Horizons has hired a Customer Support Specialist. Tina Hyman started with AHI on February 26th, and is taking over our "first line of defense".

Tina is a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and will be able to help troubleshoot items by phone and with remote/web based access. Tina will also be responsible for escalating items to our network engineers, Erick and Paul, as well as scheduling them for service calls.

Tina will be looking at the "big picture" for our clients, helping us to be more proactive to your needs. She will also work on project management, when new or replacement installations of servers, workstations, etc. are required.

To contact Tina directly for support or service you may call 540-767-7625 or send her an email at tina@automatedhorizons.net.

    Alert! Daylight Saving Time Change!

On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the start and end dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.

Most of the United States will begin Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 11 and revert to standard time on Sunday, November 4. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time, and it should be noted that DST is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Arizona. The Navajo Nation does, however, participate in DST, even in Arizona.

In the European Union, Summer Time begins and ends at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment.

So what does this mean for you? If you do not have the Windows Automatic Update or have not installed the Time Zone Update Tool, the time zone settings for your computer may not be correct. This may cause your calendar entries to be incorrect and subsequently missed.

In the interest of airing on the side of caution, we strongly recommend that you update your computers and servers. Users who have automatic updates installed, or those using Windows Vista, may already have the update, but the following link will enable you to confirm you have the patch, or download and install it. If you would like one of our staff to assist you with the DST patch on your system, please contact Tina Hyman. If you are using any specialty software applications, there may be specific patches for those applications, and we recommend you contact us for more information.
